AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is one of the most strikingly beautiful shows I have ever seen. The dancing is exquisite, a jeté above your average Broadway musical. The acting is charming, the singing is accomplished and then you have all of that sublime Gershwin music . . . sorry, I just drifted into a “Rhapsody in Blue” induced happiness coma, I think they used to call it “reverie.” Anyway, I found the book, by Craig Lucas, to be unexpectedly interesting and unpredictable. The sets take your breath away. The direction is expert. Any other year, it would have been a shoo-in for the Tony, but their loss is your gain; tickets are available for this gorgeous, dancing gem.
